Community Engagement with Special Olympics

As part of our community engagement with groups. Marie O’Connor our transport coordinator for Limerick contacted Eileen O’Connell, the coordinator of services for “The Special Olympics” for a testimonial on what the transport means to the group and this is what Eileen had to say about the transport services that we provide.

“It would be easy for me to just say “thank you” for facilitating our training,” by providing buses for all our Athletes. When you see the joy on their faces at training, their ability to play a game of bocce & their willingness to take coaching from us, you will have a far better understanding of how you are changing their lives.  Did you know that 6 of our club members have represented Munster at Ireland games, 1 at world games, that would not be possible without regular training, and transport.  For many of our Athletes, Tuesday evening is their only social outlet, Marie we would like you to join us on Tuesday Evening and bring your “Tackies”, nobody gets away without going on court for a game”

Marie, never refuses an invitation to meet a group and was up for the challenge and gladly accepted Eileen’s invitation & enjoyed a wonderful evening meeting all the volunteers and the fantastic athletes.  Marie would like to extend a huge thanks to Noel Larkin, who was her Bocce partner on the evening and she is looking forward to visiting the group again in May when they will be at competition level.
