TFI Local Link Limerick Clare were delighted to be involved in the Job Shadow initiative with St Joseph’s Foundation in Charleville. It was great to meet Aaron Goold who was job shadowing our Local Link driver Dave Dalton with Kilmallock Coaches on our RRS service 520 – Charleville via Kilmallock – Bruree – Athlacca – Charleville on Wednesday 22nd May. Brian Ward a support worker with St Joseph’s Foundation assisted Aaron on the day and Marie O’Connor Transport Operations Co-Ordinator for Limerick met them on route. Aaron had a great day and David assisted him in his daily duties as a driver with TFI Local Link.

The St. Joseph’s foundation Job Shadow Initiative is designed to give people with additional needs a unique opportunity to get a close up look at the world of work for one day or one week in April each year, enabling them to discover and learn about the skills and education required to be included and succeed in the work place. The Job Shadow Initiative offers people with additional needs an opportunity to shadow a work place mentor as they go about their daily work. Supported Employment enables people with additional needs to find, secure and maintain employment in the open labour market. Supported Employment supports people with on the job training providing individualised long-term support if required. Employers have the opportunity to get involved in the project without any obligation to provide employment. The process will enable a job coach to engage with an employer, discuss any questions  they have about employing people with additional needs. The Job Shadow Initiative lets prospective employers know of the range of support services available to them when they participate in Supported Employment opportunities.
